Lucy Parnell

www.somethingbeginningwithl.com

Lucy Parnell has been creating music and working within the music industry since the age of 16.

From a very early age Lucy discovered a real affinity with guitar, piano and voice. She began documenting her songs and ideas with a tape recorder, joined a band at 15 years old and had first radio play at 16 years old.

Lucy’s musical education was rendered spending nights listening to John Peel playing an incredible collection of world, western, blues, punk, roots and jazz music, obsessively seeking out and attending gigs to further this discovery and forming her own early creative relationships with other like-minded folk. Radio very quickly became a central part of her life and was almost certainly the trigger for her ambition to work within music and arts.

In 2004 Lucy spent her first professional year recording with one of several music groups, which ultimately led to many more creative collaborations over the years. In the same year, at only 17, Lucy was invited to record a session for the John Peel Show. It was an unforgettable experience, it fuelled her passion for creating music and helped shape her attitudes towards performance.

For the next two years Lucy went on the road with many bands and musicians, immersing herself in the music she loved and sometimes loathed. The world of tour broadened her professional and personal experience. Lucy worked with everyone from Willy Mason and Sufjan Stevens to Extreme Noise Terror and The Fun Lovin’ Criminals. She quickly became very successful and one of only a hand full of female technicians and stage managers in an extremely male dominated industry.

Whilst on the road Lucy witnessed some amazing performances in a variety of strange and beautiful shows in many similarly strange and beautiful places. These shows led her back home to her desire to write and perform once again. The prospect of being a part of the production again was very exciting.

Coming off tour Lucy joined up with two long time friends to form a new group, ‘Something Beginning With L’ They released their first single at the end of 2009 and their and first album is due for release in 2011. With a desire to further her own vocal career Lucy recently began new creative relationships with artists Graham Coxon and Robyn Hitchcock. She has now sung on several of their albums and performed numerous times with them live.

Now with a wealth of experience under her belt Lucy is shaping her own musical world, scoring music for film and video, embarking on her solo career and enjoying the opportunity to collaborate with many artists from varying disciplines.
